About the Course

This CPD will equip you with the knowledge and research necessary to feel confident working with young people.

The 10-25-year age group are probably the most at risk of severe anxiety, depression, cyber-bullying and feeling overwhelmed, unable to cope with day-to-day life even. We will explore and learn about this area in mental health that is in need of more trained professionals and look at the many ways we can help. We also look at some new resources to use in our sessions to help these young people to bring out the very best of themselves.

What the CPD will cover:

  • Mental Illness in Young People
  • How the Brain Works in Young People and how this differs to the workings of the adult brain
  • A detailed and in-depth look at the environment young people live in today
  • Who we might expect to see in our Therapy Rooms
  • Issues generally faced by this age group and how we can help
  • Hormones and Neurotransmitters – which ones are helpful and how to better access and use them
  • The Therapeutic Alliance when working with teenagers and adolescents – it’s different, simple yet not necessarily easy
  • The Parents – how and when to involve them
  • Is it business as usual? We look at where and how things differ and how to do things differently
  • How the IC differs when we’re working with Young People, with a specific IC Information Gathering sheet
  • Peers, teachers and parents: helping young people understand how to communicate better and more easily
  • Alternatives to use for our MQ
  • Lots of specific SF Questions that work really well when working with young people and teenagers
  • How to help young people cope better with stress
  • Language patterns/Metaphors – a selection that work really well, and how in general to make them relevant and particular
  • Case Studies – a selection of case studies throughout this age range to show how our work differs to working with adults, as well as how to help a young person or teenager when it seems there is nothing that can be done.

I am fresh out of Cpht Hampshire so my word for today is ‘eye-opening’ and the CPD was presented by a fabulous host – thank you so much Julie.

Kerry Aiken/Pickering
My word for today is inspiring. I only qualified in August and this has really given me the confidence to work with young people.

Katie Handley
I’ve just finished an amazing CPD with Julie May on Working with Teenagers. Thank you so much it was absolutely brilliant! I have so many new tools and lots of new knowledge to go away with to help young people. This was an amazing CPD! Highly recommend!

Thank you so much for today’s CPD, it was absolutely brilliant. I wish this had been a module on our original training. I’ve learned so much and it was lovely to hear your passion and experience of working with teenagers and young people. What you spoke about today really resonated with me. I’ve been a teacher in Primary Schools for the past 12 years before qualifying as a SFH this August. I know first-hand the difficulties in getting the help needed on the NHS. It’s this that made me want to specialise just with working with children, teenagers and young people. Thank you Julie.

Gina Brown
Thank you so much for today Julie. This was such a comprehensive and fascinating CPD. I really do feel it should be part of our core training and at the very least, an AHD module, given the need for our services in this area and the additional insights we learnt today about the developing teenage brain and the challenges many young people face. I feel much more confident about working with this age group now and would definitely recommend it to others. Thank you.

Chris Hunt
A really brilliant day, Julie is so passionate and knowledgeable – so easy to listen to. Highly recommended.

Laura Brewer

Helena Jarman

Veronique Mertes
I have just been on the most amazing course on ‘How to work with Teenagers’. Thank you Julie for an amazing day which has given me so much useful knowledge and tools to work with the beautiful young people surrounding us. I can’t wait to work with those incredible kids out there and help create a society which understands how stress and pressure affects the younger generation. And I am sure my son will notice the difference too!! Julie that passion and beauty of your work came right over!

Jen Higgins
Really enjoyed today thank you Julie, both as a practitioner and as a parent and have been
talking to my hubby about a few of the things we’ve been educated about today (after a nap to consolidate, not actually joking, was exhausted from all the learning!). So much to take forward and implement into practice for working with young people and moving forward with those clients I already have who are under 25!

Lynn Gaskell
Due to not being trained in this area some don’t have the confidence to work with this group of people who are desperately in need of support. The right training delivered by Julie can empower many hypnotherapists to feel confident when working with teenagers and young people. I work in a secondary school as a mentor and hypnotherapist so I have witnessed first-hand the benefits that SFH can have on teenagers and young people who are ‘stuck’. SFH is a respectful, safe and effective way of working with teenagers, young people and their families so if anyone out there wishes to work in this area then this CPD is well worth your time and money.

Maria Chumas-Baker
Thanks Julie, it was amazing. Great CPD. Such a lot of detail.

Kate Taylor
